Masanamuthu Lakshanan, a skilled raider for Tamil Thalaivas, proudly hails from the picturesque district of Tuticorin in Tamil Nadu. His journey from humble beginnings to becoming a key player in the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) is nothing short of inspiring. Despite facing numerous hurdles, Muthu's unwavering determination and relentless efforts have shaped him into the player he is today.
The Beginning: Nesammal Kabaddi Club
Masanamuthu’s love for Kabaddi began in his hometown, where he was inspired by the players of the Nesammal Kabaddi Club. Watching their dedication and the recognition they earned through the sport ignited a spark in him. “It all started there,” Muthu recalls. “Seeing the players at Nesammal inspired me to dream big. I wanted to follow in their footsteps and achieve something significant in life.”
For Muthu, Kabaddi was not just a sport but a means to uplift his family and bring pride to his community. His father, a painter, and his mother, a laborer at salt exports, worked tirelessly to support the family. Traveling for practice was a significant financial burden, but Muthu took it upon himself to overcome these challenges. “Life has never been easy for me. I felt terrible asking my parents for money because I knew how hard they worked,” he shares. “I had to endure the difficulties and take responsibility to make it to practice on time.”
A Journey of Hard Work and Dedication
Masanamuthu’s rise to prominence didn’t happen overnight. It took 14 years of consistent hard work, dedication, and countless sacrifices to reach where he is today. In the early days, his performance was far from what it is now, but his perseverance set him apart. Day by day, he honed his skills, determined to achieve his dream of playing in the Pro Kabaddi League.
“The Pro Kabaddi League was my life’s goal, and fulfilling it has brought me immense satisfaction,” says Muthu. His inclusion in the Tamil Thalaivas squad has been a turning point in his career, giving him the recognition he always aspired to achieve.
Gratitude to Tamil Thalaivas
Now in his second consecutive season with Tamil Thalaivas, Muthu expresses heartfelt gratitude to the team for believing in him. “I will always be thankful to Tamil Thalaivas for giving me this opportunity. It’s because of them that I got my due recognition. This team has taken me to the top,” he says with pride.
Muthu highlights the exceptional care and support provided by the Tamil Thalaivas management. “You have to be in the team to truly understand the way they function and care for their players. This is my home team, and I will never forget the memories I’ve made here. Tamil Thalaivas are more than a team to me; it’s family.”
Inspiring the Next Generation
Masanamuthu Lakshanan’s journey is not just about personal achievement but also about creating a pathway for others. Coming from a poor family, he understands the struggles that many aspiring players face. Today, he is a known figure in his district, and his success has already inspired several young players to step out of their comfort zones and pursue their dreams.
“The platform I’ve been given has helped people recognize me, and now I’m in a position to inspire others,” he says. “I believe I can help more young, talented players break out of their cocoon and make a name for themselves.”
